The 33rd meeting was called to order by Josh Monney at 4:10 pm at the Tumbleweed Bar and Grill on 05 January 2008. The following individuals were present at the meeting: Josh Monney, Andrew Musto, Jeff Lewis, Larry Henry, Rodney and Tracey Rulon, Chuck Tapp, Cary and Jennifer Guild, and Mark Hirschmann.
OLD BUSINESS: The first order was to discuss the subject which was tabled in November, which was what organization should be considered for nomination to receive the KBEF funds in the event the KBEF goes defunct due to lack of membership participation. John Melvin wrote a letter to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) and we have received a response back from them. They are going to bring this issue up at their next board meeting and get back to us. In addition to the MRF being notified it was suggested that we contact Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) which is headquartered in Missouri, however helps out on both sides of the state line. Andy will contact BACA to find out if they are interested. (emails on file with secretary)
TREASURER’S REPORT: Jeff Lewis informed the board there was $12,240.42 in the fund. This figure does not include the membership dues for the new member. We also have $180.00 in petty cash. Jeff will get with Gary Gourley (the KBEF’s tax man) on filing taxes and also check to see if the KBEF has to pay tax on the interest we made in 2007. Jeff will report this at the next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS: The first order of new business was to discuss membership and corporate sponsors dues. Donald Provence (Dee’s boy friend) was given a membership from Lumpy’s and Kurt Schmidt joined this past month. Welcome to both of them. Jack Messer has expressed his continued interest to renew his corporate sponsorship with the KBEF and Chuck Tapp will get with him later this month. We have two members that have dues coming up in January. They are Cary Guild and Anita Shaw. Cary was informed at this meeting and a vote was taken to continue advertising with Anita and therefore her fee to renew will be $10.00.
Next order was to discuss the first winter event: It was decided that we would have a Taco Bar/Texas Holdem Poker Tournament on the 26th of Jan @ Lumpy’s in Olathe. Sign up @ 12:00. Dee will pick up all the ingredients needed for the Tacos and the KBEF will reimburse her. Andy will make the flyers up.
Josh conducted an internal inventory on all KBEF assets and provided a list to all the board members. It was decided that only the second year of membership to the KBEF will receive a free T-Shirt, regardless if the member bought the first one or not. Every year after the second year the T-shirts will cost everyone.
Article III of the Bylaws states that, “the Kansas Bikers Emergency Fund shall promote motorcycle awareness, education safety and liberty through community involvement.” We will talk more on this subject at future meetings, but it has been suggested by Jason Piper (one of our members) that we try to have some type of safety event day or maybe run a safety campaign to raise money for a safety event. More to follow on this as it was tabled.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting, motion was seconded and meeting was adjourned at 5:20 pm. The next meeting will be conducted at the Jobsite Bar and Grill in Olathe at 4:00 pm. on the 2nd of February 2008. (Saturday)
