The 34th meeting was called to order by Josh Monney at 4:02 pm at the Jobsite Bar and Grill on 02 February 2008. The following individuals were present at the meeting: Josh Monney, Andrew Musto, Jeff Lewis, Chuck Tapp and two guests: Kelsey Uttrich Sergeant at Arms for ABATE District 5 and his guest Candy Barr, District 5 ABATE member.
GUEST: Mr. Uttrich purpose of attending the meeting was to invite the KBEF to their Spring Swap Meet on the 29th of March. He informed the board that the swap meet was part of the Tuff Enough Weekend which has a grand prize of $150.00. He also told the board what the cost would be for a 10’ x 10’ space, which was $15.00. The board decided that this would be a good way to get the KBEF name out there, maybe sell some shirts and signed up for a space. We will need two volunteers to man the booth on the 29th, more on that at the next meeting.
OLD BUSINESS: The first order was to discuss the subject which was tabled in November, which was what organization should be considered for nomination to receive the KBEF funds in the event the KBEF goes defunct due to lack of membership participation. John Melvin wrote a letter to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) and we have received a response back from them. They decided they would not be able to accept our offer. We are still waiting to hear back from BACA. This issue will be re-tabled until the April meeting.
Jeff got with Gary Gourley, our tax preparer and Gary has all of paperwork and is working on the taxes. Chuck also asked Jeff to check with Gary to see if we have to pay capital gains tax on the interest we made during 2007.
Josh will get with Jack Messer this week, he is 100% positive Jack will renew his Corporate Sponsorship this year. Anita Shaw renewed her membership this past week.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Jeff Lewis informed the board there was $12,762.19 in the fund. We made $280.00 on the Taco Bar/Texas Holdem Tournament and sold $30.00 worth of T-shirts. We also made $244.90 interest in 2007. There is approx. $90.00 in petty cash fund.
NEW BUSINESS: The first order of new business was to discuss membership and corporate sponsors dues. There are several members that have renewal fees due or coming due they are: Mike Emberton 9 Feb 08, John Petzold 17 Feb 08, Jack Messer 14 Dec 07, Kelly Cerrillo 9 Feb 08, Cary Guild 28 Jan 08, Robert Dostal 4 Feb 08, Charles Easley 9 Feb 08, Marc Hirschmann 9 Feb 08 and Richard Foster 4 Feb 08. If any of you had anything to do with getting these members originally signed please help get word to them they are due.
The Taco Bar/Texas Holdem Poker Tournament on the 26th of Jan @ Lumpy’s in Olathe went very well. There was approx. 10 lbs of ground beef left and Chuck took it to the Jobsite to sell Taco during the Super Bowl for .50 a Taco with all proceeds to go to the KBEF. We are using every possible resource we can to make cash for the fund and we need help from other members. If it has been awhile since you have volunteered to help out your organization please step up and give some of the other members a break. The KBEF would like to thank Mrs. Nancy Harris of Lynn County for her $25.00 donation as well.
To help fulfill our obligations to Article III of the Bylaws we are looking into joining ABATE District 5 with the renting billboards across the state promoting Motorcycle Awareness month, which is March. Also, possible purchasing safety goggles with the KBEF emblem on them. Josh requested that we purchase 6 each Tri-Fold holders to be placed in our Corporate Sponsors businesses. Jeff will pick them up prior to next meeting.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting, motion was seconded and meeting was adjourned at 5:23 pm. The next meeting will be conducted at the Jobsite Bar and Grill in Olathe at 4:00 pm. on the 1st of March 2008. (Saturday)
